Lone Star Rally underway in Galveston

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) —

The Lone Star Rally saw scores of bikers descend upon Galveston this weekend. The annual event draws in almost half a million people, according to the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). This year, however, many attendees noted fewer participants due to the rain.

This year marks the rally’s 15th anniversary. Today spirits remained high in spite of the weather.

“It’s freedom, man. That’s all it is — the freedom to go out and ride and enjoy. That’s what I do,” said Grant Rollins. He and his best friend Dale Hudson have attended every year. “We come looking for parts. Look at the people. It’s just a really good time.”

The CVB estimates more than 200,000 motorcycles fill city streets every year. Mary Beth Bassett with the CVB said the rally continues to grow every year and helps to spread the word about Galveston.

“The bikers are quite a network so they come from all corners of the United States. It’s not a Houston crowd,” said Bassett. “It’s nice for the bikers to come to Galveston do their networking and go back to their home state. It helps the event keep growing.”

Eyewitness News crews toured streets around the Strand, most of them cordoned off for bikers and pedestrians only. Local vendors, restaurants, and bars catered to the thousands in attendance.

“It’s like a bike lover’s dream. You see old friends here. You meet new ones. People who ride share a common bond. It’s like a brotherhood,” explained attendee Ricky Chaffin. “You can check out other people’s rides, buy and sell parts, see the latest models, and just be yourself.”

Men and women in leather abound. Biker gear, a prominent feature of the event, was on sale at almost every venue.

“There’s shopping, there’s food, there’s booze, there’s hot dudes. Good times!” said Rachel Garret, a regular attendee.

“If you’ve ever been to Galveston and been down the Strand and you see how intimate it is, that is what really makes this rally work. I think the people of Galveston really welcome this rally and event,” said Gray. “That’s what made it grow through the years.”

Local merchants agree. Seal Grief, owner of “Christmas on the Strand for more than 30 years, says the bikers are some of her favorite tourists.

“There’s a lot of noise with the (motorcycle) engines, but they are extremely polite. They come in the store a lot, which isn’t something you’d expect from burly bikers. Then they come back, many with their families, to shop for the holidays. It’s good for us, good for the hotels, and good for Galveston. I’m all for it,” Ms. Grief said.

The rally also features live music on three separate stages, a full event guide, and dozens of activities for motorcycle enthusiasts.

Spring Racing 2015 - Day 4 Men's Fashion With #Peronistyle

FeatRace

Spring Racing fashion is being covered by D’Marge in collaboration with Peroni. Follow the daily action right here #PeroniStyle

All bets were off for the final day of Spring Races in Melbourne. The best-dressed men (with the style-eye help of #PeroniStyle) ensured the outcome was good, however, with double-breasted blazers in navy hues zoopedup with racing reds add-ons, complementary to the red rose boutonniere.

The demure greyscale check – in a classic three-piece style – worked as a canvas for outlandish bow ties (paisley, powder blues and baby pinks), sat plumpish and boisterous underneath the odd tweaked moustache and Forties-gangster slicked hair.

The pristine pattern combos and double-breasted ensembles let men latch onto antique accessories trackside – brass signet rings, olive trilby hats and nautical striped watch brands fresh indicators of what’s to be a super stylish summer this holiday season.

Top ten Bond cars

10. AMC Hornet – The Man with the Golden Gun, 1974
One of Bond’s rare outings in an American-made car, which featured in not only one of the most famous scenes in Bond’s history but also received a world record for the first astro spiral used in a movie; a computer-designed stunt captured in one take when Bond performs a corkscrew jump over a broken bridge in Thailand.

9. Lotus Turbo Esprit – For Your Eyes Only, 1981
For Roger Moore’s fifth outing as Bond, filmmakers wanted a more traditional return to form after the sci-fi plot of Moonraker and decided to feature not just one, but two British-made Lotus Esprits.  A white one which features an anti-theft self-destruct feature (handy), and the second, a more iconic copper model which Bond drives to Cortina in Spain. Originally white like the first, filmmakers sent it back to Lotus who repainted it copper with gold stripes so it would stand out against the snow better.

8. BMW Z8 – The World is Not Enough, 1999
Although this car is most famous for being spectacularly sliced in half in half by a helicopter wielding an enormous circular saw, the German-made Z8 is actually a rather lovely and stylish model. With titanium plating and armour it was equally swanky on the inside with a steering wheel target display, a remote-control keyring and that ultimate essential, six different cup holders.

7. No10 Sunbeam Alpine series II – Dr. No, 1962
Bond wasn’t always about the Bentleys and Aston Martins; in fact 007’s first-ever car was a humble, British-made Sunbeam Alpine that he rents in Jamaica in Dr. No. On a leisurely drive up to the lovely (albeit double-crossing) Miss Taro’s house in the Blue Mountains, Bond is pursued by the Three Blind Mice assassins in a hearse but upon coming across a crane in the road, the nifty Sunbeam darts underneath, outwitting the hearse, which careens down the mountain to a fiery end.

6.Aston Martin V8 Vantage – The Living Daylights, 1987
This modern classic was of the last generation of Aston Martins to be based on the original DBS design. Elegant, with gun-metal finish and curves in all the right places, even without Q’s ingenious flourishes the car is a masterpiece, and the gadgets are pretty amazing too…

5. Aston Martin V12 Vanquish – Die Another Day, 2002
Product placement at its peak, the grand tourer V12 Vanquish was the official car of Die Another Day.  The front-firing rockets, two machine guns and spike-producing tires were sadly not included in the standard model. The car also featured a cloaking device and passenger ejector seat which Bond uses in a moment of inspiration to flip the car when it has overturned in a chase.

4. Ford Mustang Mach 1 – Diamonds are Forever, 1971
Ever the trendsetter, Goldfinger was the first film to feature the Ford Mustang when Tilly Masterson drove it in through the Swiss Alps – it later became famous for its role in the ten minute San Francisco car chase in the Steve McQueen heist epic Bullitt. In Diamonds are Forever, Bond took the Mustang to new levels when, during a police car chase in Las Vegas, he drives the car up a ramp and on only two wheels manoeuvres it down a narrow alley.

3. Lotus Espirit (submarine edition) – The Spy who Loved Me 1977
In underwater romp The Spy Who Loved Me, Roger Moore’s Bond is on a mission to trace several Soviet Ballistic-missile submarines which have mysteriously disappeared, encountering vicious assassin Jaws and Bond babe Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) along the way. In one particularly memorable chase scene, Bond is seen driving his trusty Lotus Esprit in Sardinia. With baddies on his tail from land and sky it looks like all hope is lost, but thanks to Bond’s incredible driving skills and the fact that Q, in a moment of pure genius, has installed a ‘submarine’ feature, Bond makes his great escape underwater. The car was built and driven in the scene by an ex-Navy Seal and cost $100,000 to convert.

2. Aston Martin DB10 – Spectre, 2015
He may get bored of women pretty quickly, but Bond’s love affair with Aston Martins endures. A bespoke, two-door coupé has been designed especially to celebrate the 50-year-collaboration between the British brand and the Bond franchise. Only ten of the DB10 have been made, eight for the film and two for archive purposes. It won’t be made available for general sale, sadly.

1. Aston Martin DB5 – Goldfinger, 1964
In one of the greatest scenes in 007 history, and really the beginning of it all for Bond and his kitted-out Astons, Q patiently explains all the modifications he has made to the DB5, including a smoke screen and oil slick tool and the ubiquitous ejector seat. The magic lies in the anticipation of not knowing when Bond will unleash the gadgets on unsuspecting bad guys.

The new James Bond movie Spectre opens at cinemas nationally on November 12.

Men's Health May Be Suffering From Hypermasculine Energy Drink Ads; Study Warns They're Not ...

Many Americans will reach for energy drinks, but perhaps no more so than men. Since men are the main consumers of these highly caffeinated, fizzy beverages, a team of scientists led by Dr. Ronald F. Levant, a professor of psychology at The University of Akron, was curious to see if there was a link between energy drinks and masculinity. The scientists also examined the effects energy drinks had on sleep and how drink expectations influenced consumption.

Oftentimes, energy drinks are marketed in a way that highlights masculinity. Commercials may feature men engaged in adrenaline-pumping, risky activities, like snowboarding or skydiving. Many brands of energy drinks sponsor sporting events as well, including ultimate fighting leagues, motocross, and racing.

“While most men who buy energy drinks aren’t martial arts champions or race car drivers, these marketing campaigns can make some men feel as though drinking energy drinks is a way to feel closer to, or associated with, these ultra-masculine sports,” said Levant in a press release.

Levant and his team first had 467 adult men take the Male Role Norms Inventory short form (MRNI-SF) designed by Levant. The survey attempts to measure a person’s agreement with traditional masculine attitudes, such as “I think a young man should try to be physically tough, even if he’s not,” and, “Men should not be too quick to tell others that they care about them.”

The second survey men took measured expectations about the effects of energy drinks, and included statements like, “If I consume energy drinks, I will be more willing to take risks,” and, “If I consume energy drinks, I will perform better.”

The final survey involved in the study was focused on sleep in order to compare disturbances in men’s sleep patterns to a standard sleep quality index. It looked at things like how often the men had to get up to use the bathroom, plus how much trouble they had falling asleep.

The researchers found associations between energy drink consumption and beliefs in traditional masculinity, the efficacy of energy drinks, and sleep disturbances with a couple notable exceptions.

“Older men were, more or less, exempt from the trend, and non-white men who endorsed traditional masculinity believed in the efficacy of energy drinks, but this belief didn’t translate into actual use,” they said.

For younger, white men in the sample, the link was much clearer.

“The link between masculinity ideology and energy drink use suggests that energy drinks use may be means of performing masculinity…as a way to raise masculine capital,” Levant said. He added the performance could be a way of showing off that one is consuming products associated with a competitive lifestyle.

The study suggests this association could have a negative effect on men’s health. Excessive consumption of caffeine can accelerate heart rate and increase anxiety, along with contributing to insomnia.

“Energy drinks contain very large amounts of caffeine, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require caffeine quantities to be displayed on beverage labels,” said Levant. “Because of this, some people may drink more caffeine through energy drinks than they might have intended to throughout a day, and drinking large amounts can cause problems — especially for sleep.”

MIC Report: Motorcycle Sales Up Through September 2015

Byron Wilson | November 6, 2015

Motorcycle sales continue to creep upward according to the latest Quarterly Member Retail Sales Flash Report from the Motorcycle Industry Council. The grand total of units sold through September 2015, including Dual, Off-Highway, On-Highway motorcycles and Scooters reached 413,128 for the year, 18,488 more two-wheeled vehicles than were sold at the same point last year. For the month of September 2015, total sales reached 40,298, a 6% improvement over sales in September 2014.

The sales figures are determined based on the performance of MIC member manufacturers (BMW, Can-Am, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, the Piaggio Group, Victory, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha).

The On-Highway segment accounted for the bulk of sales for the month, at 28,879 units, as well as in YTD figures at 298,773 units. That’s a 5.1% increase for the month when compared to last year and a 6.4% increase for the year.

The Dual segment achieved the largest percentage of growth, with September 2015 sales 21.8% better than September 2014. For the year, Dual motorcycle sales have improved 6.9%, with 30,465 units sold through the first nine months of 2015.

Off-Highway motorcycles were popular as well, improving 11.5% for the month. Sales for the year in the segment have slowed compared to others, improving 2.7% compared to YTD figures marked in 2014.

The Scooter segment is the only to see a decline for the month and in YTD numbers. Scooter sales were down 8.1% in September 2015 and are down 10.9% for the year.

ATV figures were reported as well, showing an 8.4% increase for the month. The segment grew to 164,491 units sold YTD, marking a modest gain of 0.9% for the year.

Apple thought about making a car back in 2008

Nest Inc. Chief Executive Officer Tony Fadell Studio 1.0 Interview

The possibility of an Apple-made car isn’t anything new — as it turns out, it’s practically old news. iPod co-creator (and Nest CEO) Tony Fadell tells Bloomberg that he and Steve Jobs had “multiple” discussions about a car in 2008. They asked each other high-level questions, such as what the dashboard would look like and what the power plant would be. The idea didn’t progress beyond that point due to a combination of tight resources and a lousy economic climate. Apple was swamped with iPhone work, and the American car industry was “almost dead.” Why get into cars at a time when the field’s heavyweights were asking for bailouts?

Executives had been floating the idea even before Fadell and Jobs talked, but the chats suggest that Jobs was fond of the idea — it was just a matter of diving in when Apple and the market were ready. As it stands, many of the ingredients needed for a suitably tech-savvy car weren’t in place yet. Electric cars still had poor range, infotainment systems didn’t talk to your smartphone and autonomous driving features barely existed. Assuming Apple does release a car in 2019, it’s more likely to meet lofty expectations.

Norman Reedus, the actor who plays Daryl Dixon in “The Walking Dead,” will be getting his own reality show in AMC. The new series will be based on the actor’s fondness of motorcycles.

The details of the upcoming show, titled “Ride With Norman Reedus,” were recently announced by AMC. The show will debut with a series of episodes, with a total of six hours. As a famous bike enthusiast himself, Reedus will probe deeper into his ultimate passion by roving the open road and exploring meaningful places through the bikers’ way of life.

“Ride With Norman Reedus” has already slated a number of pit stops, which include warehouses, tattoo parlors, smokehouses and more. The show will allow Reedus to interact with the best mechanics, motorcycle craftsmen and several collectors in the U.S., Design Trend reported.

However, Reedus’ show was not set up for the actor to go on this exciting trip alone, as he will be teaming up with several special guests for every weekly installment. Guests will include some celebrities, including other actors, musicians as well as local chopper experts, who will set out to a particular destination.

The concerted effort is being credited in large part to its producers Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman of Left/Right Productions.

The reality show’s producer Druckerman was recently asked to give a statement about the upcoming series. He acknowledged Reedus’ incredible love for motorcycle lifestyle. According to him, “Norman’s interest in motorcycle culture and his natural ability to make friends wherever the road takes him are just two of the key ingredients that make this show so exciting for us.”

Although fans of the actor/model may feel excited to watch AMC’s new reality series, they would have to wait for a few more months as the upcoming show is not set to arrive until 2016. For now, Reedus’ followers may enjoy his appearance as Daryl Dixon in the next episode of “The Walking Dead Season 6.”

Nepal police clear protesters from no-man's land near India border

Nepalese police removed protesters from a key border point Monday to allow more than 200 vehicles stranded for the past 40 days to cross into India, officials said.

Police official Hobindra Bogati said five protesters were detained when police removed them and the tents they had pitched in the no man’s land between the two countries. He said that 205 trucks and other vehicles had crossed from Birgunj, Nepal, to Raxaul, India, and that more were lining up.

However, trucks bringing fuel and other goods to Nepal were still blocked by Indian customs officials.

Members of the ethnic Madhesi people have been protesting Nepal’s new constitution, saying it divides the Madhesis among a number of states. The Madhesis, who want the creation of a larger state that they would dominate, have imposed a general strike in southern Nepal and blocked the border crossing, resulting in a severe fuel shortage across Nepal.

At least 45 people have been killed in the protests since August. There is no official count of the injured.

Police raided the protesters’ camp before dawn when they were still sleeping, removed the tents and lined up the trucks to leave Nepal. By morning, there were small groups of protesters in the town of Birgunj, but no reports of any violence.

Bogati said police were on alert and would stop any attempt to block the trucks.

On Sunday, talks between the government and Madhesi representatives made some progress.

Following the one-day talks, Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa said the government would address the Madhesis’ demand for a larger state through discussions with other political parties.

Initially, the government insisted that the size of states be resolved through a government-appointed commission, but Thapa said it would be discussed as a political issue, as demanded by the protesters.

The government also agreed to the United Democratic Madhesi Front’s demands that families of killed protesters be given monetary compensation, that the government pay for medical care for the injured, and that cases against the jailed be withdrawn.

Huckaby: Hats for men is fashion trend that should come back

I wonder when and why men stopped wearing hats? I wish it were still the custom, because I look dang good in a hat — even if I do say so myself.

My daddy and all of his friends wore hats all the time and he always had several stacked on top of our chifferobe when I was a little boy. Most were felt, with leather hatbands, but there were always a couple of straw ones with sporty little feathers for summer wear.

All the men wore hats to church. Stump Ivey always placed his in the church window, right next to his cigar, when he went into the sanctuary. The men would wear hats any time they were dressed up. In what few Easter photographs we have of me as a child, I am wearing a chapeau myself.

Sometime between the early ‘60s and the 1970s, along about the time the designated-hitter rule ruined baseball in the American League, men’s hats just disappeared from the fashion scene. Maybe it was Vitalis that caused the decline of men’s headwear, or Wildroot Crème-Oil. It couldn’t have been Brylcreem. It had to be some of that greasy kid stuff. I think possibly men were preoccupied with their pompadours and didn’t want to risk having hat-hair when they stepped inside a building. Oh, yes. You always had to take off your hat when you stepped inside. It was good manners. Even the great Bear Bryant — the only football coach in history to have an animal named after him — took off his signature houndstooth and went bareheaded when Alabama played in the Superdome. His mama raised him right.

Now understand that wearing broad-brim hats is not to be confused with wearing baseball caps, which many men do today. Baseball caps are OK on kids and baseball players, but way too many middle-aged men wear baseball caps today, and seldom take them off, even inside the house.

I’ll never forget the first time I went to a fancy dinner — it was an athletic banquet — and half the men in the room sat down to eat wearing baseball caps. The other half were dressed in coat and tie, understand. I stood to speak and asked them to remove their hats before I said grace and you would have thought that I had asked them to stand naked before the queen in Piccadilly Circus.

It would drive me crazy when my son, Jackson, and his teenage friends would wear their baseball caps backward. Not a single one of them, to my knowledge, ever played hindcatcher. It would embarrass Jackson to death when his friends would come to our house and I would tell them to take their hats off before coming to the dinner table. It was my house, understand, and we observe my rules in my house. And my rules, passed down from my mama and them, included no hats in the house — not even baseball caps — and especially not at the table.

You weren’t supposed to throw a hat on the bed, either, because that was bad luck, but that’s another story for another day.

Nowadays, kids drive me crazy because they don’t bend the bill of their baseball caps. You’ve seen them. They wear them straight across and leave the price tags on them. That just looks ridiculous, like wearing a straw hat in the middle of the winter or a felt one with a seersucker suit and white bucks in June.

You may be wondering why I have hats on my mind today, although my head is bare — which is not the same thing as being bald or being empty. I saw a great movie last week — “Bridge of Spies,” starring Tom Hanks. It was set in the Cold War and told the story of Francis Gary Powers and the U-2 spy plane incident. The film covered a time period roughly between 1956 and 1961. All the men in the movie wore business suits and hats, and they looked so cool. They all took their hats off before entering a building, and I didn’t notice a single one having hat-hair. But, of course, that was Hollywood, so who knows what they really might have looked like.

All I know is that it made me nostalgic for the time when men didn’t go outside without their head being covered. I might try to bring that trend back. The next time you see me dressed up, I just might be wearing a nice felt Stetson, if I can find one. And if I can find a nice chifferobe to keep it on, I’ll really be in business.

Movember: How growing a moustache is putting Leeds health boffins to work

The modern day moustache has taken on a whole new meaning in recent years – and whether you like facial fur or not, Leeds is at the forefront.

Having all but disappeared from popular culture since the 1980s, furnishing the upper lip has become an annual worldwide phenomenon that symbolises charity fundraising in support of men’s health.

The transformation of the facial hair fad into a vehicle for bringing men together through the Movember campaign was sparked by a group of friends in Australia in 2003 and has raised £400million to date.

The Movember Foundation was launched and it now funds projects all over the world focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity among men.

Embarrassing yourself by sprouting a Des Lynam-style moustache during the month of November has created a talking point and fundraising opportunity for millions.

Its immense reach has seen three recent research projects in Leeds among those to get the backing of the foundation.

.

.

Professor Steve Robertson, who specialises in men’s health at Leeds Beckett University, now also advises Movember on the strategy to tackle men’s health inequalities.

“There is a massively serious side,” he said. “The amount of things they have funded has not only directly helped particular interventions but one of the things they are very keen on is generating longer term learning from things they fund.

“The fun stuff is fantastic in terms of campaigning but it’s important that people know the benefit of what they do.”

Having worked in men’s health for two decades, Prof Robertson has seen a huge growth in the awareness and willingness to tackle issues like depression and mental health problems as well as male specific cancers within the wider population.

He has worked on three research projects funded by the Movember Foundation, most recently as part of a study spanning five countries looking at how and why certain services work for men in mental health prevention and early intervention.

A series of principles to inform future services came from the study, such as that the service settings for certain groups, the language some groups of men can relate to and how services need to be tailored around people’s age, sexuality and ethnicity are all incredibly important.

Prof Robertson added: “I think it’s shifted the whole framework substantially. I’ve worked in the field for 20 years and apart from work around men’s testicles and prostates there really wasn’t a whole lot going on back then.

“There are all sorts of reasons as to why it’s improved and I certainly think Movember has been a part of that.”

HOW TO JOIN IN

Movember launched in 2003 after a chat among a group of friends in Melbourne.

Since then 5m people have joined the movement, grown moustaches for the 30 days of November and raised £400m in the process.

There is now more than one way to join in with the campaign. Men and women can fundraise and this year a MOVE campaign is urging fundraisers to commit to exercising every day in November.

To sign up and raise funds for the Movember Foundation visit movember.com.

Bike rental startups ride into limelight

BENGALURU: When Chandu Harshvardhan, 21, a BTech from Hyderabad, arrived in Bengaluru for his IAS exam, he had no trouble getting around the city. All he did was rent a scooter from a bike rental startup. It was waiting at the railway station when his train reached Bengaluru. “RoadPanda was suggested to me by Trip Advisor. I used the Activa to go around the city.

After four days, they came and collected it from the station,” he says. RoadPanda, started by exHoneywell employees Abhishek Nair and Vijay Meena, started its operations in July. Its target customers are mainly visitors who need a two-wheeler.

It was their troublesome experience with local trains in Mumbai that got them into this business. “In 2013, when I visited Mumbai, travelling was a huge problem. I had to take the local train there. It was quite difficult not having my own vehicle,” says Nair.

RoadPanda has a fleet size of five: three motorbikes and two Scootys. Customers need to pay a deposit of Rs 2,000 plus the equivalent for the number of hours they intend to use the bike. In Harshvardhan’s case, it was just Rs 1,000.

Low price points, easy accessibility and availability of two-wheelers – from a Honda Activa to a Hayabusa – are making customers look towards rental startups for travel solutions when visiting metros.

WheelStreet is a marketplace for motorcycle rentals.Started in 2014 in New Delhi by Moksha Srivastava and Pranay Shrivastava, it shifted to Bengaluru in January . During his college days, Pranay was renting out his bike to his friends for money . Moksha, on the other hand, faced a disappointing experience when she rented a Scooty from a Delhi vendor

Low price points, easy accessibility and availability of two-wheelers – from a Honda Activa to a Hayabusa – are making customers look towards rental startups for travel solutions when visiting metros

These school friends from Jhansi teamed up to create a platform where anybody could rent verified two-wheelers online from reliable vendors. With 15 vendors on board and a fleet size of 250 vehicles each, WheelStreet plans to start its Bengaluru operations from next month. For a 100cc vehicle, WheelStreet charges an average of Rs 400500 a day , while a Hayabusa goes for Rs 10,000 a day.

And it’s not just the city kids giving these startups a chance. Venkatesan Ravi, 51, who works as a maintenance manager at Armstrong Pump Manufacturers, had dreamed of owning a Royal Enfield since he was 14. However, he could never afford to buy one.In August, his 23-year old son, Ganapati Subramanium decided to make his dream come true, temporarily .

He rented a Royal Enfield from a startup called Royal Brothers. “My father had tears in his eyes when he saw the bike. He was in seventh heaven! We rented the bike for two days and went from Bengaluru to our home town Salem. He wouldn’t even let me ride it,” said Subramanium with a laugh.

Abhishek Chandrashekhar had rejected an MBA offer from Cardiff University to start Royal Brothers, along with his RV College Prof Manunath TN in April. With 25 pickup locations across Bengaluru, a user can book any vehicle after registering his driver licence and Aadhaar number. A minimum deposit of Rs 2000 has to be paid online.

The minimum price starts from Rs 30 hour for an Electra and can go up to Rs 50 per hour for a Continental GT. Another luxury bike rental platform, WickedRide, has seen an interesting trend. Vivekanada HR, co-founder of WickedRide, says more women riders are becoming interested in renting luxury vehicles. A 500cc Enfield can be rented out on a per-day basis starting from Rs 2,200 and can go up to Rs 15,000 for a Night Rod Harley Davidson.

But starting a two-wheeler rental startup in Karnataka isn’t easy . Chandrashekhar says although the Centre had passed a bill in 1997 allowing bike rentals, it wasn’t official in Karnataka until recently .”None of the companies were authorized to rent out bikes. We were the first ones in South India to get the licence,” he claims.

According to Vivekanda of WickedRide, which operates in Gujarat and Rajasthan too, Karnataka was one of the toughest to get a licence.”We had to bring awareness about the licence to specific departments in the government. It took quite some time,” he adds.

“Everyone likes to ride luxury bikes. We see a majority of the IT crowd coming in.There was one couple who came all the way from Delhi just to ride a Harley,” says Vivekananda of WickedRide.
