Fatal Motorcycle Crash Slows Traffic East of Sparks

The Nevada Highway Patrol says one man has died, after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 80 Saturday night.

First responders were called to the scene, near the Painted Rock exit, just after 5:45 p.m.

Troopers say that is where two motorcycles had been riding together in the left lane, when they attempted to cross into the right lane.

One of the motorcycle riders noticed a car in that lane and attempted to swerve back into the left lane.

As a result, troopers say that rider then lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other rider did not crash and is uninjured.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is also seeking the driver of the black vehicle that had been traveling in the right lane. Troopers do not believe it made contact with the motorcycle, but believe the driver was a witness.

All witnesses are being asked to call NHP dispatch immediately, at 687-0400.

Both eastbound lanes of I-80 remain closed near the Painted Rock exit, and motorists in the area should expect severe delays until at least 9 p.m.

From Jayhawk to fashion, former player tries his hand at men's c - KCTV5

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Basketball may be the only thing on some minds these days, but at least one player is trying a new game – in fashion.

“I still haven’t gotten used to being called ‘fashion designer,"” said Justin Wesley, a former University of Kansas basketball player.

Wesley played basketball for KU, but when he graduated last May his eyes were set on a different prize.

The 23-year-old thought basketball was going to be his life. His brothers, Keith and Kevin Langford, are professional ball players overseas. He played forward for KU, so it just felt right.

“Going to the games I kind of developed a love for KU, so I wanted to experience it for myself as a player. I had the greatest time of my life,” Wesley said.

But he also enjoyed something else even more – designing classic men’s clothes and shoes.

“I feel like had other talents and aspirations that I didn’t just have to rely on basketball. That’s what I’m doing today,” he said.

He’s even tried his hand at acting. His first acting gig was as Wilt Chamberlain in the movie Jayhawkers.

“Outside of the sixth grade school play, and I only had one line in that. So, no, I had no prior acting experience. The director said, ‘You’re an athlete, just be yourself,"” Wesley said.

Breaking into the fashion industry hasn’t been easy. He’s in transition, moving from Lawrence to Kansas City. He uses his favorite spot, Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters, as an office and to come up with creative ideas.

For him, it’s about following his ideas and not those of others.

Wesley’s says those who want to branch out can’t turn down opportunities to meet people or shake hands. He was on his way to Chicago to see his clothing go from designs on paper to fabric.

Zero Motorcycles, suddenly dwarfed, responds with some bigger numbers

SCOTTS VALLEY — This time last year, Zero Motorcycles could comfortably claim to be the world’s leading electric motorcycle maker.

Then Harley-Davidson unveiled its electric LiveWire concept bike, and Polaris Industries acquired Brammo Motorcycles, positioning itself to match Harley.

The suddenly dwarfed Bay Area bike maker responded by upping its game.

Zero has doubled its staff from about 60 to about 130, added VPs of marketing and quality, and doubled its production capacity.

In addition to Harley and Polaris — the parent company of the Indian and Victory motorcycle lines — BMW has put an electric scooter on the market. Austrian KTM has begun selling an electric dirt bike, and Japan’s Yamaha has said it will put two electric motorcycles into production by 2016.

Zero is still a small player. The company built 1,300 of its high-end electric motorcycles in 2014, and will build 1,800 this year, the company said. By comparison, Harley-Davidson, the country’s largest manufacturer, builds that many gas-powered bikes every two days.

Still, Zero welcomes the motorcycle giants into its electric niche.

“We were thrilled by Harley’s LiveWire, and Polaris coming in is good, too,” Chief Executive Richard Walker said recently. “This validates what we’re doing. When the big boys come in, it helps.”

The company has also gotten some help this year in the form of improved components. A number of top-end suppliers, previously dubious about Zero’s chances, have partnered on the 2015 models.

New forks and suspension are made by industry leader Showa. The ABS braking system wears the Bosch label. The bikes themselves wear Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires.

“It took us a while to get these companies on board,” said chief technology officer Abe Askenazi. “There was a time when no one returned our calls. Now, we lead the space. They know we’re going to be around.”

The privately held “Crafted in California” electric motorcycle maker was founded by a former NASA engineer in 2006, when out of a tiny strip mall garage it began marketing what looked like a motorized mountain bike.

The company began selling street bikes in 2009 and has gradually refined the components and broadened the product line. Zero now sells four on-road electric machines, with versions specially outfitted for military and law enforcement users.

The machines are hand-assembled in a quiet, high-ceilinged factory, where on a recent weekday about 30 workers were busy turning baskets of parts into Zeros.

The completed machines undergo the same rigorous testing as motorcycles coming off the line at Ducati or Honda. In one room, a just-built bike was being run at extreme speeds on a dynamometer, a machine that measures horsepower.

In another, Zero batteries were subjected to a 15-minute “water test” to ensure they won’t short out in a rainstorm. (A battery prototype was submerged in a nearby harbor for 24 hours, Zero said, and performed well afterward.)

The company has claimed the batteries are good for more than 400,000 miles, and warranties them for five years or 50,000 miles for the entry-level FX, and up to five years or 100,000 miles for the S, DS and SR models.

Proponents of electric motorcycles tout their minimal impact on the environment, savings at the gas pump and low maintenance.

And Zero is not operating in a vacuum. San Francisco’s Mission, San Carlos’ Lightning and Italy’s Energica all build high-speed, high-performance, high-priced electric superbikes.

Admired by electric motorcycle fans, all are niche players in a niche segment and sell only a handful of units every year. The technology’s most potent marketing tool has been the test ride.

Prospective customers, even the dubious ones, end their inaugural runs with an almost universal reaction — whatever the brand.

“The first thing everyone says is ‘power,’ ” said Scot Harden, a former pro racer who is now Zero’s vice president of global marketing. “That’s why we don’t lead with the green issue or the lower cost-of-maintenance issue. We market the magic carpet ride.”

The company’s flagship SR produces the equivalent of 67 horsepower and 106 foot-pounds of torque. At under 400 pounds, it’s capable of going 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 102 mph.

A Ducati Monster 821, for comparison, weighs about the same and boasts 112 horsepower and 66 foot-pounds of torque. It costs $11,495, to a Zero SR’s $17,345.

But the Monster doesn’t get to 60 mph quite that quickly, and it isn’t electric.

Like many Zero owners, veteran rider Jose Soriano said he bought his 2013 Zero SR for the thrill of silent power. The TV director said he owns many gas-powered bikes, but spends most of his time on the Zero.

“I love all the noise and vibration” of traditional bikes, he said. “But on the SR, I can smell the ocean before I get there. Everything is more amplified because nothing else is in the way.”

Some prospective customers are still concerned about the Zero’s ability to go the distance between charges.

The SR model claims a range of 151 city miles with the entry-level battery pack, and up to 185 city miles with the more expensive battery and Power Tank range extending option. Estimates for highway miles run from a low of 71 to a high of 141.

“They say, ‘I drive over 100 miles in a day,’ but that’s fine,” said Harlan Flagg, owner of Hollywood Electrics, Zero’s No. 1 retailer. “You ride to work, plug it in and have a full charge when you go home. Range anxiety is not an issue. The charging pattern is what people don’t understand.”

Zero is also pushing into overseas markets and fleet sales. Half its sales now come from outside the U.S., and 10 percent of its business is with police departments and security agencies attracted to the Zero’s silence, low maintenance and low pollution.

Company executives recognize that Zero’s large price tag and small dealer network are hampering growth. CEO Walker said the company needs to triple its network of 45 dealers.

Then there’s the cost. Though entry-level Zeros sell for about $10,000, the Zero SR, with the range-extending battery pack, costs closer to $20,000. (A California rebate knocks $900 off.)

“Price is the No. 1 reason people say they’re not buying a Zero after a demo ride,” Walker said.

Those who can afford them, like Zero fan Perry King, can love the electric bikes without giving up the gas-powered ones.

“It’s like motorboats and sailboats,” King, the film and TV actor, said. “You don’t have to quit loving one to love the other.”

On the team

Top-end suppliers have partnered on the 2015 models:

Zero batteries were subjected to a “water test,” ensuring they won’t short out in a rainstorm.

The SR model claims a range of 151 city miles with the entry-level battery pack.

Dodge suspends orders for 707-hp Hellcat muscle cars

Updated MAR 20, 2015 4:23p ET

Dodge is hitting the brakes on the “Hellcat” versions of the Challenger and Charger, suspending orders of the 707-horsepower muscle machines due to overwhelming demand. The two share the title of “most powerful American production car in history,” and boast top speeds of 199 mph and 204 mph, respectively.

The automaker was caught off guard by interest in the pair since they were released late last year, and has already received orders for twice as many as it planned to build for 2015. The shortage has led to 50 percent markups on the $60,000-plus by some dealers, while others have reportedly taken dozens of deposits on cars they could take years to deliver, leading Dodge to warn customers of what it called unscrupulous behavior.

Now, it wants to get its house in order.

“Due to unprecedented demand for the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats, we are temporarily restricting orders while we validate current orders that are in the system,” the company tells FoxNews.com.

There’s no official word on when the order books will be reopened, but according to a source at AllParNews.com it could be August before Dodge gets caught up.

Healthcare System Failing Young African-American Men

A new report by the Journal of the American Medical Association finds that young African-American men have better survival chances in prison than on the street because they have better access to health care. Meanwhile,  a group based in Albany is rolling out a new program to address the intersection of race, crime, criminal justice policy, and health.

New York spends more money on health care than almost any other state, but a new report finds that it’s not reaching one group in particular – young black men. Researchers from the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that African-American men in their teens and twenties receive few benefits from health-care spending. Boston Medical Center’s Dr. Stephen Martin, a coauthor of the report, says they have a better chance of surviving in prison than on the street.     “Your odds of dying are half in prison what they’d be on the street, because you have the things that you need to stay alive and stay healthy – you have nutrition, you’ve got a roof over your head, you’ve got medical care that’s accessible and guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Albany Center For Law and Justice Director Alice Green calls Martin’s report a “sad commentary on our society.”   “One that does not provide adequate health care to all of the people. Black males are dying in prison at a rate three times that of whites from aids. There’s limited drug treatment. There’s certainly a whole host of infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B and C, TB, sexually transmitted diseases and untreated substance abuse that are rampant in our prison system. These people come back out into the community, 95 percent of the people who are incarcerated do, and so the community has to find a way of continuing whatever health care they do get inside prison.”

The Viewpoint commentary in the Journal of the American Medical Association points out that African-American men can expect to live about five fewer years than white men.  Albany-based community advocate Marlon Anderson spent 13 years working in the medical profession.    “Accessibility to good medical care is lacking not just for black men, but for people who are in that poverty range in general. I think one of the best things that could have ever happened to American medical care would have been if we went to a single payer system. For black men, accessible and good health care has always been an issue, and continues to be, and is reflected in the numbers of black men dying in America.”

To help change that, Martin says the U.S. needs to increase funding for social and public-health programs.  His paper suggests partnerships between primary-care providers and public health would go a long way to help young black men. Martin says it would address the lack of social services and effective primary care in communities of color.   “It’s striking how only three cents of our American health-care dollar goes to public health – just three cents. This is the same public health that gave us 90 percent of our life-expectancy gains in the 20th century. And yet, compared with medical care, public-health and social-support funding have been eviscerated.”

Green’s organization has taken a unique approach to address some of the problems. The Center is collaborating with a number of community organizations and groups, forming “The H.E.A.D. Project”   : “…Health, Education and Diversion. The interest is in diverting people from arrest. It’s a pre-arrest type program that would put people into drug treatment and also deal with mental health issues. We’re trying to educate the community as well about the problems of health, particularly looking at the intersection between race, crime, criminal justice policy and health. Because there’s some serious problems amongst the population that particularly end up in our jails and prisons.”

The program has opened an Albany outreach office at 153 South Pearl Street.   Green says “We’re looking at all of the problems that result from, not only drugs, but being incarcerated, because we incarcerate the poorest, the unhealthiest, the sickest segments of our population. They come with a lot of different problems and issues. So we’re trying to make some connections between what’s happening to these people while they’re in jail and when they come back out into the community. We’re hoping that the Affordable Care Act can be used to provide more services and give people access to medical care.”

Researchers note that heart disease and cancer contribute to lower life expectancy – but homicide is the leading cause of death for black males ages 15 to 34. It also ranks among the top three causes of death for black male children, ages one to 14.

Yamaha Returns to AIMExpo in 2015

The American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) and Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, (Yamaha) have announced that the legendary manufacturer has again committed to participate in the third-annual event, scheduled for October 15-18 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center (OCCC), making them the first OEM partner to come aboard in 2015. Yamaha was an original OEM participant of AIMExpo in 2013 and plans to utilize the all-encompassing format to showcase products, offer demo rides and much more.

The innovative structure of AIMExpo offers exhibitors the unique opportunity to closely interact with trade, media and consumer attendees throughout the world of powersports in one desirable setting. With its expanded presence in 2014, Yamaha globally debuted seven new dirt, sport and cruiser models; hosted meetings and receptions with its nationwide dealer network and national sales staff; offered exclusive demo rides of motorcycle, ATV and Side x Side products at AIMExpo Outdoors!; and engaged with domestic and international media attendees inside the Media Hub.

“Yamaha is indeed pleased to have chosen AIMExpo’s highly effective medium to introduce and display our new Motorcycles, ATV’s, Side x Sides and Scooters since the show’s inception, and we are very excited to return for the third consecutive year!” said Bob Starr, General Manager of Yamaha’s Communication Division. “Both their platform and the timing of the event has enabled Yamaha to launch new product to the media, while energizing both dealers and consumers with a full display of our entire powersports lineup. The ability to also demo key models to both dealers and consumers adds a highly desirable element for Yamaha to further showcase our brand. We’re looking forward to returning to Orlando in October!”

Once again, Yamaha is developing plans that will bring its latest models to AIMExpo for all to see. This includes public debuts of key models that will soon be arriving in dealership showrooms. Advance previews like this, as well as the opportunity to demo a variety of products and interact face-to-face with brand representatives, are just a few of the enticing reasons for dealers and consumers alike to mark AIMExpo 2015 on their calendars.

“Over the last two years Yamaha has taken full advantage of the comprehensive platform AIMExpo provides to fully engage with the powersports media, dealers and consumers,” said Larry Little, Vice President & General Manager, Motorcycle Group. “The manner in which Yamaha has embraced and leveraged AIMExpo in its first two years has been impressive. We’re working hard to provide them, as well as the greater powersports industry, with the stage and the tools to continually transform the way they effectively interact with all facets of the industry in one place at one time.”

In 2014, the AIMExpo 3-Way Giveaway promotion returned and included the chance for one lucky winner to ride off on a custom Star Bolt motorcycle. Complementing the Bolt giveaway was an eye-catching lineup of custom Bolt motorcycles that was on full display for all to see inside Yamaha’s expansive booth on the show floor. Yamaha’s 2015 footprint will be equally impressive and again feature its full range of diverse, industry-leading on- and off-road products.

More than 260 exhibitors have already committed to AIMExpo in 2015. Exhibitor presence builds each day and companies looking to take advantage of the AIMExpo platform should contact an AIMExpo Account Manager toll free at 855-MCShows (855-627-4697).

Be sure to stay tuned to the AIMExpoUSA.com website and keep up to date on exciting news as it happens by visiting AIMExpo’s social media pages. “Like” the American International Motorcycle Expo on Facebook, and “Follow” on Twitter or Instagram: @AIMExpo.

Fight like a man: 10 films where the heroine takes on the villain

During the climax of Navdeep Singh’s NH10, Anushka Sharma lights up more than just cigarette. With smoldering intensity, she beats the villain to a pulp… And then some more… Raising questions of the female hero assuming the man’s position.

Here’s listing 10 films that showed the woman using her muscles to be mean and macho in the climax to combat the villain.

1. Rani Mukerji in Mardaani: In the bloody climax of the film, it’s just Rani Mukerji and her adversary Tahir Bhasin fighting it out fist to fist. As per the demands of the script, Rani beats the child-trafficking villain to a pulp. As per convention, this was a revolutionary role reversal.

2. Sushmita Sen in Samay: She played a single mother and a gritty cop tracking down a serial killer. At the end of the film, it was just Sush gunning down Jackie Shroff. Creepy.

3. Shilpa Shetty in Dus: In Anubhav Sinha’s awful cops-and-robbers tale, Shilpa Shetty played ‘one of the boys’ which meant essentially, that she learnt a few martial arts moves to look convincing as a woman in a man’s job.

4. Priyanka Chopra in Mary Kom: She played the real-life pugilist with just the right punches and by the rules of the male-dominated sport even getting bashed up to a pulp in the boxing ring.

5. Sridevi in Army: Watch the splendid Sridevi take on Danny Denzongpa in the bloodied climax of this Sholay rip-off. This was a classic case of gender reversal with the Thakur from the original transforming into a vendetta-seeking houri out to avenge her husband Shah Rukh’s death.

6. Shabana Azmi in Bhavna: As a woman, who would do anything to protect her child, Shabana’s character knifes her own husband (Marc Zuber) in one of the most astonishing avatars of ‘Mother India’ ever attempted.

7. Madhuri Dixit in Anjaam: She beats her tormentor Shah Rukh Khan to a pulp in the climax before plunging to her death, revenge for her murdered husband complete. It’s a man’s world force-occupied by the female hero.

8. Raakhee in Shradhanjali: As a woman defending her family against the villainous Suresh Oberoi, Raakhee played the avenging ‘hero’ long before it became fashioned for heroines to kick ass.

9. Tapsee Pannu in Baby: Boy, did she give Sushant Singh the beating of his life! As a secret agent grappling a suspected terrorist, she took on the villain without the hero’s help, beating the sh..t out of him. Way to go, Tapsee.

10. Anushka Sharma in NH10: Smoldering with an unspoken rage, Anusha as a woman who has nothing to lose, goes on killing rampage against her husband’s killers. Revenge never looked sexier.

Fashion is important. Not merely as an extension of our personalities, not just an expression of our personal tastes. No, our clothing, for better and worse, is also packed with innumerous, not-so-secret signifiers of status and class, gender and sexuality, power and politics. Our wardrobe, however spontaneously or precisely assembled, communicates cultural values, the influence of different eras and locales, the dueling desire for communal identification and individuality. In this sense, fashion designers are the very creators of those aesthetic tools by which we assimilate or seek distinction.

The modern fashion industry as we know it has its roots in the elaborate, couture (made-to-measure) fashions of the 19th century French court, and throughout the early 20th century, up until the 1960s really, Paris reigned as the center of high fashion around the world. World War II changed the global map of political and stylistic influence. Ready-to-wear collections did away with much of the previous decades’ pomp, and soon youth movements across the United States and Europe would usher in an era of subcultures and their corresponding styles (from the Teddy Boy look of 1950s London to the hippie look of 1960s America) that would resonate for decades to come.

The simple, tailored, unisex-look of American ready-to-wear would reach international acclaim beginning in the 1970s, in no small part due to the efforts of the following three mavericks of American style. They’ve won awards. They’ve garnered acclaim and controversy. But most of all, they gave, and continue to give us, new ways of re-imagining our place in the material world.

In 1968, Calvin Klein, a prodigious New York-born designer, opened a small coat shop in the York Hotel. By the mid-70s, he’d added a menswear and womenswear collection, established licenses for shoes, sunglasses, and other accessories, and created his signature tailored denim pants, fueling a massive designer-jean frenzy. With a keen eye for edginess, Klein paired his simple collection pieces with controversial advertising, most notably the 1980 television segment featuring a 15-year-old Brooke Shields asking, “Do you want to know what comes between me and my Calvins?”

In 1982, Klein was awarded the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award for outstanding design in both womenswear and menswear, becoming the first designer ever to receive both honors in the same year. But the man, and the brand, didn’t stop there. In 1992, he would go on to revolutionize the men’s underwear market by introducing the boxer-brief, made famous by print ads featuring a young “Marky Mark” Wahlberg and even younger Kate Moss. Calvin Klein Inc. was sold to Phillips Van Heusen Corp. (PVH; owners of Tommy Hilfiger and Izod) in 2002, and though Klein is longer involved in the day-to-day design of collections, his brand remains strong, his choice of ads provocative.

Fashion designer Ralph Lauren pictured in East Hampton in November 1977. (Getty Images)

Born in the Bronx, Ralph Lifshitz always aspired to be somebody. It’s been said that, under his picture in his high school yearbook, he signed one word: “Millionaire.” As a teen, he was enraptured by golden-era films, idolizing stars like Cary Grant and Fred Astaire and Catherine Hepburn, drawn to the sight of “Woody”station wagons and other quintessential Americana. After dropping out of college, he served in the United States Army, leaving in 1964 to briefly work for Brooks Brothers as a sales assistant. Then, he had this idea. He wanted to design a wide necktie, like the type he’d seen actor Douglas Fairbanks Jr. sporting. He began producing ties out of used materials and selling them to local stores, until in 1967, with a $50,000 loan from manufacturer Norman Hilton, he opened a necktie store of his own, where he sold ties of his own design under the label “Polo Ralph Lauren.” The rest, as they say, is history.

By 1970, the man known as Ralph Lauren won the prestigious Coty American Fashion Critics’ Award for his menswear collection, an honor that predated what is perhaps his biggest achievement: the introduction in 1972 of a sportswear staple, his now famous short-sleeve pique shirt with signature Polo logo, a perfect blending of old-world airs with rugged American tailoring. Fast-forward forty years and Mr. Lauren is much more than a millionaire—he’s a philanthropist, a well-known collector of some of the finest automobiles in existence, and a recipient of the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur. His brand is a multi-billion dollar enterprise, his legacy cemented in the annals of fashion history.

In the six short years that he designed menswear, Perry Ellis became known as one of the most influential designers in America. Producing sportswear that included playful patterns, crisp colors, and impeccably constructed pants, Ellis introduced an effortless sense of sartorial possibility to a market dominated by stodgier, more traditional men’s clothing. Between 1979 and 1984, Ellis won eight Coty Awards and was presented with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Award. He also was an emphatic mentor to up-and-coming designers, and served as president of the CFDA from 1984 until his untimely death in 1986. Though Perry Ellis the brand now resembles much of the conservative menswear it initially parried, Perry Ellis the man is still remembered for injecting men’s fashion with a much needed sense of cool and whimsy.

Planes, cars, motorcycles burned in Pompano hangar fire

Aircraft, cars and motorcycles suffered heavy damage from a fire that broke out inside a hangar at the Pompano Beach Airpark.

Crews from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue were called to the scene along the 1000 block of Northeast 10th Street about 9:30 p.m. Monday and found heavy flames and smoke coming from the metal structure, said Assistant Fire Chief Michael Hohl.

“There was extensive fire damage to a few planes, automobiles and motorcycles, ” Hohl said.

According to Hohl, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the west end of the hangar where blaze is believe to have started.

There were no reports of injuries from the fire. Crews used caution because of the types of dangerous substances that can burn along with aircraft and motor vehicles – particularly magnesium.

“So, you have heavy fire conditions, a lot of heat and a lot of smoke because of the petroleum products that are burning,” Hohl said.

For safety reasons, Hohl said, firefighters fought the blaze from outside the hangar but were still able to contain it to the area of origin.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Correspondent Jim Donnelly contributed to this report.

6 Effects Of Low Levels Of Testosterone In Men

Statins may lower testosterone and libido as per the warning issued by the U.S Food and Drug Administration, reports The Seattle Times. The FDA says that the use of testosterone should only be limited to patients with hypogonadism, a condition that lowers this hormone.

The use of statins is usually done as a secondary prevention for cardiovascular diseases. There have been studies done in the past which supports the fact that use of statins causes low levels of testosterone. A past study published in the journal BMC Medicine successfully provided the evidence for it.

The drugs like pitavastatin (Livalo), atorvastatin (Lipitor) and simvastatin (Zocor) might lower testosterone which has an impact on libido and sexual performance, says the study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, April 2010.

Testosterone, a male sex hormone produced by the testes performs the function of development of male sexual characteristics, such as a deep voice and a beard, stimulates the activity of the male secondary sex characteristics and strengthens the muscle tone and bone mass.

The levels of this hormone begin to drop natural with the increasing age and when the production of it drastically drops or ceases, a range of symptoms and complications occur. Low testosterone can only be diagnosed if the levels fall below 300 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL).

Effects of low levels of testosterone experienced by the men

  1. Decrease in the volume of seminal fluid (Semen): Seminal fluid aids in the motility of sperm whose production is influenced by the levels of testosterone. According to the biological rule, the more testosterone a man has the more semen he produces and thus the men who have low levels of the hormone testosterone will have a decreased volume of sperm in their ejaculate.

  2. Low sex drive: In young men, low levels of testosterone may cause drastic drop in his desire to have sex.

  3. Erectile dysfunction: Testosterone is the stimulator for a man’s sex drive and thus aids in achieving an erection by stimulating receptors in the brain. Hence low levels of the hormone leads to issues like erectile dysfunction, including obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis.

  4. Hair Loss: Balding is considered as a natural phenomenon related to aging, but in men with very low levels of testosterone, loss of body and facial hair is a common phenomenon.

  5. Decrease in Bone Mass: Osteoporosis is a condition most commonly found in women, causes weakening of the bones. However, in men whose levels of testosterone are low seem to experience bone loss because testosterone aids in the production and strengthening of bone.

  6. Mood Changes: Drop in testosterone levels alters the mood and mental capacity in men making them depressed, irritable, or they might lack focus.
