ROYALTON – Two people suffered head injuries in a motorcycle crash shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Saturday on Hartland Road, between State Street and Slayton Settlement Road.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said the motorcycle operator, an unidentified 35-year-old man, was transported by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, after crashing into another motorcycle. His passenger, a 24-year-old woman, also unidentified, was taken by ambulance ECMC.
The Sheriff’s Office said names would be withheld pending completion of the investigation.
The two victims were in a group of 10 motorcycles traveling north on Hartland, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Their motorcycle fell behind, and while trying to catch up, struck the rear of another motorcycle, deputies said.
The 53-year-old man who was operating the motorcycle that was struck from behind was not injured, and a 54-year-old woman who was a passenger on the motorcycle suffered minor injuries and signed off on medical treatment, deputies said.
The 35-year-old motorcyclist who was taken to ECMC was charged with following too closely.
Meanwhile, a Lockport man riding a motorycyle that was hit by a car on Fisk Road late Friday afternoon was listed in serious conditon Saturday in ECMC.
Richard Vanorder, 65, was flown from the crash scene by Mercy Flight and was being treated for arm and leg injuries. Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said he was struck by a vehicle turning into a driveway shortly before 5:30 p.m.
The driver, Sharon Linforth, 73, of Lancaster faces proceedings in Pendleton Town Court on a charge of failure to yield the right of way. Linforth was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, for medical evaluation.
