Three Killed When Motorcycles Collide On Doty Rd.

Three young adults were killed and a fourth was injured when two motorcycles collided head-on in a rural area outside of Maybee Friday night.

Monroe County sheriff’s deputies reported the accident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Doty Rd. near Zink Rd. in Exeter Township.

Killed in the accident were Darin T. Lipkowski, 18, of Maybee and Marc Thompson, 23, of Monroe. The third person who died was a 21-year-old woman whose identity has not yet been released until family members are notified.

The fourth person involved with 18-year-old Samantha L. Morlan of Monroe. She was listed in temporary serious condition at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor.

Deputies said Mr. Thompson was riding a 2010 Kawasaki dirt bike and the 21-year-old woman was his passenger. Investigation shows that Mr. Thompson was riding northbound on Doty north of Zink when for unknown reason the dirt bike traveled left of center and collided with a 1996 Kawasaki motorcycle.

The motorcycle, which was southbound on Doty, was being operated by Mr. Lipkowski while Ms. Morlan was his passenger.

Mr. Thompson and his passenger were ejected from the dirt bike and came to rest along the west shoulder of Doty. Mr. Lipkowski and Ms. Morlan also were ejected and came to rest along the east shoulder of Doty.

The two operators of the bikes were pronounced dead at the scene. The two female passengers were rushed to St. Joseph in Ann Arbor. The unnamed woman was pronounced dead on arrival.

Deputies said it appears that the two women passengers were wearing helmets at the time of the crash while the two men were not.

Monroe Community Ambulance and London-Maybee-Raisinville and Exeter Township volunteer fire departments assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Deputies Dan Zdybek and Brian Quinn of the Traffic Services Division along with Deputies Doug Bender, Tom Fauver and David Moore of road patrol.
