Family fun day aims to raise awareness about men's health

WHITSUNDAY PCYC is calling on children of all ages to bring their fathers, grandfathers, uncles and brothers to the club’s free ‘Healthy Fathers, Healthy Families’ event this Saturday.

The family fun day is sponsored by men’s health organisations Men of Malvern Health and Welfare and Foundation 49.

This free event will include a giant inflatable playground, a sausage sizzle, an arts and crafts corner, community stalls, information on men’s health and services, the chance to create a family tree, storytelling and much more.

Whitsunday PCYC branch support officer Jo Pillifeant said the day is about shedding light on men’s health issues. “Australian men are more likely than Australian women to get sick from serious health problems, their mortality rate is also much higher and they are also less likely to seek professional help for problems, particularly those of an emotional nature,” she said.

Ms Pillifeant said the event will be a great way to acknowledge the importance of men as fathers, husbands, partners, grandfathers, brothers, uncles and friends.

“It is a time to appreciate men in particular, their vital role as [a] Dad and being an important role model for their children,” she said.

Whitsunday PCYC hopes to see many families from within the community show their support by attending this free event.
