St. Thomas More Hospital is offering a free health event called Men’s Sports Readiness from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the St. Thomas More Outpatient Rehabilitation Center on the hospital’s campus at 1338 Phay Ave.

The event aims to provide men in the community with a sports medicine program that can help them reduce injuries and improve performance for those who are active in summer sports, according to a press release.

“We offer several women’s events for the community throughout the year, so we wanted to present a men’s health event as well,” said Jillian Maes, director of marketing and communications at STMH. “We hope they take advantage of this great opportunity to spend one-on-one time with our rehabilitation and orthopaedic services team that will help them with the upcoming summer sports season.”

Whether they plan to golf, hike, cycle, kayak or participate in many other sports and activities this summer, the hospital encourages men to get a healthy start by attending this event. Participants will receive a free personal sports readiness assessment with a team of STMH physical therapists and orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Keith Minihane of St. Thomas More Orthopaedics. They will then receive a customized exercise instructions program to get men ready for their sport.

“The benefits of attending this event are many,” said Rick Kamerzell, director of orthopaedic services. “You can improve your core strength, prepare your body for your individual sport, reduce your risk of injury and improve your overall athletic performance.”
