Lansing, MI (PRWEB) July 01, 2015
July is Women’s Motorcycle Month, and Attorney Jason Waechter, known as The Motorcycle Lawyer by fellow bikers, wants to remind vehicle drivers to be on the look-out for women who ride. “More and more women are riding motorcycles these days,” says Waechter. “Vehicle drivers need to be vigilant and always watch for motorcycles on the road.
Motorcycle ridership has been increasing steadily over the last decade, and the number of women motorcyclists has also been increasing. According to a recent Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) survey, about twelve percent of motorcycle owners, and about twenty-five percent of motorcycle riders, are women. In fact, in 2008 there were more than 5.7 million female riders in the United States, a fifty percent increase since 1998. “Women are moving from the back of the bike to the front,” says Waechter. “More and more women want the independence and freedom that motorcycling brings.”
Waechter believes that more motorcyclists, regardless of sex, is good for the biker community. “I wouldn’t say there is safety in numbers,” he explains, “but I would hope that the more vehicle drivers are exposed to motorcycles, the better they will become at being vigilant and really looking for bikers on the road.”
Over the last two decades, Waechter has helped many people injured in motorcycle accidents. He is a strong advocate for motorcycle awareness and safety programs, and encourages everyone, whether they ride or not, to get involved and spread the word. “If nothing else, slap a bumper sticker on your car to remind the vehicle driver behind you to watch for bikers,” Waechter suggests. He has bumper stickers and other motorcycle awareness products and tips on his website.
In recognition and celebration of Women’s Motorcycle Month, Waechter is inviting all female riders to share their motorcycling stories on his Facebook page. “We really want to get a conversation going about and among female motorcyclists,” he says. “We want women to tell us why they ride, what the challenges are, why it’s worth it, and we want to hear their favorite story about being out on their motorcycles.”
