Two motorcyclists injured in Newburg crash

Two motorcyclists were hospitalized after being seriously injured in a crash in Newburg Saturday.

The Pennsylvania State Police at Carlisle are reporting that Stephen J. Gehres, 28, of Orrstown, and Timothy J. Thomas, 27, of Newburg, both received what police are calling major injuries after a crash at the intersection of West Main and South High streets.

Police said both motorcycles were traveling east on Main Street when Thomas slowed and began to turn left onto High Street. Gehres was approaching fast, and side-swiped Thomas, police said.

The collision caused Gehres to lose control, and he began to slide, and struck a parked vehicle, and Thomas’s motorcycle fell on its side. Both drivers were wearing helmets, according to police.

Police said Gehres was flown to Hershey Medical Center for treatment, and Thomas was transported to Chambersburg Hospital.
