Pulsar top choice of thieves

CHANDIGARH: Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle is the favourite of thieves in the city. Their use in chain snatchings spurred crooks to lift 326 of them —- highest for two-wheelers — in the last three and a half years in Chandigarh, statistics with the police revealed.

Figures of the modus operandi branch (MOB) of the crime branch mentioned that a total of 121 Pulsar were stolen in 2013-14, 99 in 2012 and 106 in 2011.

Police sources said, “The prime reason behind maximum thefts of the bike was that they were used in snatchings and robberies. Numerous cases were reported in which snatchers used stolen Pulsar motorcycles.”

Honda Activa was the second two-wheeler the thieves preferred to target, stealing 295 of them in the three and a half years.

As many as 127 Honda Activa scooters were stolen in the last one and half years, 77 in 2011 and 91 in 2012.

Figures pointed out that 1,929 two-wheelers were stolen from the city between January 1, 2011 and May 31, 2014, while 2,979 vehicles were stolen in this period.

UT SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “There have been a number of instances when a number of stolen vehicles have been found abandoned at parking lots and residential areas. We always stress and urge city residents to adopt modern safety gears to avoid thefts.”
