Police cite woman after traffic incident kills motorcycle passenger

A woman received a traffic citation after causing a crash that killed a woman riding a motorcycle in Garden City, police said.


Anita Young, 37, was cited with failure to yield the right of way, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins.


Jacqueline Cataldi, 57, of the Socastee area was pronounced dead at 6:22 a.m. Sunday at Grand Strand Medical Center, said Horry County Coroner Robert Edge. The cause of death was head injuries.


Cataldi was the passenger on a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling north on U.S. Highway 17 around 7:40 p.m. Saturday when Young, driving a Mercury, was turning onto U.S. 17 from Cypress Avenue, Collins said.


Collins said Young did not yield the right of way when turning, causing the operator of the motorcycle to lay the motorcycle down. The operator


Neither Cataldi nor the operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. State law does not require adults to wear helmets when riding motorcycles.
