"BikeFest" Begins Week of Motorcycle Mania

As the saying goes, “start your engines!”

Harley-Davidson of Erie kicks off their annual 3rd “BikeFest” today.

Thousands of motorcycle riders are expected to take part in the seven-day event at the Millcreek Twp. dealership.

The motorcycle mania offers a number of interactive elements.

“People can expect seven days of fun,” said Kelly Lapping, owner of Harley-Davidson of Erie. “It’s all about the motorcycles. Live music, vendors, free rides, charity rides, there’s a little bit of something for everyone.”

The event features more than motorcycles; it also includes music, and a lot of it. Ten bands will perform during the week, including the following headlining acts: Chris Higbee at 8 Great Tues./BikeFest Concert, July 14; Geneva at Harley-Davidson of Erie on Wed., July 15; Kiss Army at Harley-Davidson of Erie, Fri., July 17; and Nightrain at Harley-Davidson of Erie, Sat. July 18.

But the bikes are king this week. Bikers can also enter to win a brand new 2015 Harley-Davidson custom motorcycle, which benefits the American Red Cross of Erie County.

Riders can also help attempt to set a world record during Saturday’s Harley-Davidson parade. Interested riders should register each day of BikeFest prior to Saturday’s parade, which is scheduled to begin at noon at Lake Erie Speedway. The current record stands at 2,405 Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Lapping said.

A pair of charity bike rides are scheduled this week, as well.

The “Red, White and Chrome” parade is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, at the Harley-Davidson dealership and travels to Liberty Park.

On Friday, a poker run is scheduled, benefitting the Injured Motorcycle Riders Foundation. The scenic run requires a $10 donation per bike. Registration is from 10a.m.-Noon on Friday.
