CURTICE, Ohio – Three people were injured when one motorcycle rear-ended another early today on Corduroy Road, just east of Howard Road, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Toledoan Karen Janowiecki, 43, was in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center today. Her Curtice companion, Paul Herbster, 43, who struck the motorcycle ahead of him when it slowed, also suffered minor injuries in the crash but was not taken for treatment.

The passenger of the other motorcycle, Curtice resident Lori Luce, 44, sustained injuries but was released from ProMedica Bay Park Hospital today. The driver, Eddie Luce, 43, also of Curtice, was not injured.

Both motorcycles overturned at 1:35 a.m. after Mr. Luce reduced speed to avoid a pedestrian and Mr. Herbster hit his vehicle from behind.

The accident remains under investigations and no charges have been filed. It was unclear whether any of the motorcyclists was wearing a helmet.
