CLINTON TWP. — A motorcyclist faces multiple charges following a high-speed chase in which the bike topped 100 mph. Police gave the following account.

On Saturday, July 5, around 2 p.m., Patrolman David Formalarie was traveling south on Route 629 when he received a radio report from another Clinton Township officer that two motorcycles had just been seen traveling 57 mph in a 35 mph zone on Route 629.

As he approached the Molasses Hill Road intersection, Formalarie saw the two motorcycles traveling north on Route 629. One of them, a 2014 Kawasaki ZX10R, then passed another vehicle on a double-yellow line.

Formalarie turned his patrol vehicle around and tried to stop the two motorcycles. In the area of Sand Hill Road, Formalarie activated his emergency lights and siren as the two motorcycles accelerated to a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude him.

Formalarie pursued the fleeing motorcycles at a high rate of speed down Sand Hill Road and onto Route 22, where he saw the first motorcycle pull into the Honda dealership at the intersection with Petticoat Lane.

Formalarie continued after the Kawasaki, which was now traveling over 100 miles per hour. The Kawasaki turned onto Route 621 and then onto Route 629, where Formalarie stopped his pursuit. He turned off his emergency lights and siren but soon came upon the fleeing motorcycle, which had slowed down considerably, near the overpass on Cherry Street in Lebanon Borough.

Formalarie then arrested driver Thierry Fortier, 55, of Roseland and charged him with eluding, reckless driving, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and improper passing. Fortier was then released and the motorcycle was towed away.
