God's Discipline vs Man's Discipline

(Photo)

“Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it,” (Hebrews 12:10, 11 NIV).

Notice the above scripture points out that God disciplines us for our good. I know…the thought of the word “discipline” makes many of us cringe. Partly, because it has been so abused and misused in Christian circles (even well-meaning individuals simply lack the spiritual maturity to know how to use it appropriately). Many have used the above scripture as a license to judge, criticize, point fingers, and speak harshly about and to one another. I like what I heard one pastor say, “When you point one finger, notice that you have three pointing right back at you.”

The scripture says GOD disciplines. Why then are we so overly consumed with chastising one another? Although it is wise to receive good counsel (Proverbs 15:22, Proverbs 1:5, Proverbs 12:15), one must discern and consider the source. Discipline from man must come from a genuine place of love (not from a place of offense, insecurity, the need to control, jealousy, self-righteousness, a critical spirit, etc). None of the aforementioned characteristics are from God. It is crucial that we discern between human fragility in their mistakes to discipline and the perfect knowledge of our heavenly Father, who seeks our profit, and cannot err in how He disciplines. Use discretion when seeking wise counsel.

As painful as it may be at times, God’s discipline always results in a better you. It is the pinnacle of why He desires to discipline us. It is also important to recognize that God’s correction is not condemnation; it is to promote holiness.

Although we see many instances in the bible where God used what we would consider “harsh measures” to discipline His people, it was done so due to sin and rebellion (not due to lack of perfectionism). Nonetheless, God is our Creator and He is Sovereign over all. How and when God chooses to discipline His people is God’s business and we should never try to take God’s place by making it ours.

For those who have felt the sting of being “disciplined” in a godless manner, know that that too can be used for your good. Maybe the experience will grow your heart into a heart of compassion for those who genuinely need it. Maybe it is simply a lesson on how not to treat others.

Man may sometimes chasten us, to gratify their fleshly passions. But God, the Creator of our souls never willingly grieves nor afflicts his children. It is always for our profit. Let us then use discernment when it comes to the afflictions brought on us by the malice of men, and that brought to us by our wise and gracious Father who does so out of love and for our eternal good.

Mumbai: Women beat marshals can now zip around on scooties

Waking up to the issues faced by women beat marshals while handling motorcycles, such as shifting gears and manoeuvring the heavy vehicle in narrow bylanes, the home department recently issued 50 Hero Maestros to the police department

Finally acknowledging the difficulties faced by women beat marshals while riding a motorcycle during patrols, the home department recently issued 50 Hero Maestros to the city police department.

Police officials from the department claimed that distribution of the scooties commenced on Monday. An officer, requesting anonymity, claimed that the decision to replace motorcycles with scooties was taken after reports starting pouring in about female officers meeting with accidents while navigating their vehicles through narrow lanes.

The officer further added that many women beat marshals had complained that the accidents occurred because the motorcycles were too heavy for them to manoeuvre. An officer said, “Not every police station has been allotted a scooty yet.

Only those stations, where the rate of woman-related crimes are high were issued Maestros immediately. A few of the police stations were issued two scooties, depending on their location.”

Official speak
DCP Atul Patil, Motor Vehicles Department, said, “The distribution of scooties started from Monday and so far we have distributed 50 Maestros across various police stations in the city.

50 more scooties shall be distributed in the next phase.” When asked whether the scooties were second hand, Patil said he needs to check with the department and disconnected the call.

The Master List: The indispensable men's wardrobe

So many brands. So many cuts. So many styles. So many exasperating little differences in detail. All of which help to make shopping for clothes an ordeal. Especially if you’re the kind of person who has plenty of things to worry besides the content of your wardrobe. Worry no more. This is the definitive guide to stocking your wardrobe. We strip—pardon the pun—a man’s wardrobe down to the bare essentials. Leaving you with nothing more than the shortest shopping list that will help you be a man who is dressed for almost any occasion short of accepting a Nobel Prize. The Indulge Master List is a cut-and-keep guide to the world of men’s clothing.

TOPS

1. The white shirt

The plain button-down white shirt is both essential and versatile. Not only does it go with everything else and fit with every occasion, it is also ridiculously easy to buy. There is a great white shirt to be had at every price point. But experts recommend something in soft cotton. You can’t go wrong with that.

2. The pale shirt

White is right. But there is also such a thing as too much of a good thing. Which is why you also need at least a few other button-down shirts in pale colours. Blue and pinks are the no-brainer choices. And once you find a brand and size that work for you, just keep topping your supply up every year or two. Looks great with jeans and under a sweater.

3. The crew-neck shirt

Depending on the weather, your crew-neck could be made from wool or cotton blends. Choose something that can be worn by itself, or can be paired with a shirt when the weather gets cooler. Can’t choose? Then go with this thumb rule: something dark that you can wear inside an airline cabin comfortably.

4. The white T-shirt

Never doubt the white T-shirt. Never listen to people who tell you that the white T-shirt is no longer in fashion. The white T-shirt does not lie. The white T-shirt exists. And we merely exist to do its bidding.

5. The dark T-shirt

Unless, that is, you also have a dark T-shirt. Because beyond a bit a white T-shirt gets boring. Just like your button-downs, once you find a brand and size that fits, just buy enough dark and white T-shirts to last you for a week. That should keep you going for months.

6. The kurta

Pick a kurta that is halfway between disco-silk and college-communist, and you should have a piece of clothing that is uber-versatile. Choose a length that flatters your build and a fabric that is just thick enough to not collapse into wrinkles at the merest touch. Feel free to go for bolder patterns.

BOTTOMS

1. The dark chinos

Simple, no-nonsense, unremarkable, off-the-rack pants in dark colours. Basically, pants you can wear to work without raising eyebrows. They are very boring indeed. But you can wear them without thinking. And they go well under almost any top. Find a fabric blend that is long lasting and low maintenance. Choose a cut that is so pedestrian that nobody notices that you are wearing the same cut day after day after day.

2. The light chinos/khakhis

We love our light chinos. Especially in the summer when we can pair them with a T-shirt or a white linen shirt. Pick a pair that fit well but isn’t snug. These are pants you want to wear to feel and look cool. Pick a slightly more rugged fabric if you intend to wear these on trips up hills and down valleys.

3. The good jeans

And by good we mean jeans that you wear on semi-special occasions. Jeans that don’t look like you’ve had the same pair since engineering college. So go for a good cut, a good fabric and a good brand. If a tailor needs to get involved, then don’t hold back. Why? Because this is the jeans you wear on a date or one of those company off-sites that could end in a promotion.

4. The workhorse jeans

These are those engineering college jeans we were talking about. Jeans that you wash once a year. Jeans that are cheap and cheerful and can handle punishment. Jeans that you sometimes go to bed in when you’ve had one too many pints of draught. As before, find something that works, and then stick with it.

5. The trek pants

Ideally, you’re looking at one of those slightly high-tech pants with an above-average number of pockets. But please, show restraint. Because what you’re really looking for is a pair of pants that you can, in emergencies, wear to a parent-teacher meeting as well. Light, rugged, water- and dust-proof. Those are the essential qualities.

6. The walking shorts

Unless you live in place devoid of any sunshine, a pair of good shorts is a good investment. But please, we are not talking about shorts to lounge around the home in. No, no. We mean good, proper shorts that you can pair with a belt and T-shirt. Pro tip: Get one of those trek pants with tearaway bits that change into shorts.

JACKETS

1. The denim jacket

Denim jackets are timeless. As long as you avoid a few pitfalls. Don’t get one that is so cavernous that you can smuggle small children in them. And don’t get one with excessive linings. Ideally, you should be able to wear them over a shirt in warm weather. (We said warm. Not face-melting Delhi weather.)

2. The great suit

This should be the star attraction of your wardrobe. A suit that has been forged out of painstaking effort, much musing, several trials and excellent workmanship. A suit that is so expensive that you plan an outing weeks in advance. This is the suit to win hearts and minds and directorships in. Do it.

3. The good suit

This is the suit you wear for your breakfast meetings, or you carry in your bag when you have to change at the toilet in the airport. Something that can take some punishment, will serve you well, and doesn’t mind being laundered by the odd dodgy three-star hotel. Get something in a boring colour so that you can occasionally wear just the jacket or just the trousers without the public wondering why you look like a ringmaster.

4. The summer jacket

Wait a minute. We don’t mean just one of bright and garish summer coats that oligarchs wear in Monte Carlo. Those are great. But you could also get yourself a super-thin number in linen without any linings. Or a light-as-a-feather bomber jacket. Any jacket that you can wear in the summer. They are super-versatile and will serve you all year round.

5. The light down jacket

Many people think they don’t need a proper winter jacket. Until they do need a proper winter jacket. But then it is too late and they’re being rolled into the ambulance. Buy a good quality light down jacket that is easy to pack. Something so light and compact that it doesn’t take up too much space in your luggage. When the mercury plunges during your trip to Istanbul, you’ll be glad.

BELTS

1. The formal belt

The best strategy? Get one of those reversible belts in black and brown with a buckle that can go both ways. You have instantly solved the problem of holding up the vast majority of bottoms in your wardrobe. And please exercise moderation when it comes to width.

2. The casual belt

Something fun. Like a woven leather belt. Or a belt with exaggerated stitching. Something that you can wear on the weekends with your light khakhi chinos. No. Not the one with the cowboy buckle. No, really. No.

3. The sporty belt

Actually, there is really one kind of sporty belt you need to buy. A woven belt in a nice bright colour with a double d-ring belt buckle. They go well with most informal ensembles and are fun to wear. Try matching the colours with your favourite sports team or…err…favourite colour of capsicum.

SHOES

1. The Oxford

The shoe that you wear with your good suit. They don’t have to be actual “Oxford” shoes. But anything in black with laces and polished to a mirror finish will do nicely. And if you shop carefully, there are many bargains to be had. If you find something cheap, buy two. One for special occasions and one to beat to death.

2. The brown ones

Brown shoes can be a little confusing. But you can actually wear them with almost anything these days. Especially jeans. Just get a good sturdy pair that you don’t mind wearing till it falls apart. But if you do intend to wear them often, then do pick a pair with comfortable soles and linings. Be good to your feet. You only have two.

3. The good sneakers

And by good we don’t mean high-end necessarily. Or even expensive. But shoes you will never actually run in. Sneakers that are comfortable to wear and in sober colours. So that you can pair them with the rest of your wardrobe and look eternally youthful. (At least that is our plan.)

4. The workhorse sneakers

Same as above. But shoes you can occasionally run in. And unless you are some kind of fitness fanatic, you should be able to find a pair that is good to run in and decent to just walk and lounge in.

5. The kurta sandal

Men exposing toes? There are countries in the West where this is a crime akin to treason. But who in India doesn’t own a pair of excellent leather sandals. Sandals that add gravitas and dignity to whatever kurta you’re wearing. Beware though. Many of these sandals can be sheer torture for your feet. Pick a pair that is comfortable, easy to wash and clean, with soles that won’t collapse at the first sight of that freshly watered lawn.

WATCHES

1. The slim mechanical

Okay, fine. It doesn’t have to be mechanical. But it must be slim, minimal, elegant and unobtrusive. How to choose? Pick a watch that matches your best suit. And also vanishes inside your sleeve when your drop your hand. Perfect.

2. The chunky sports watch

You can get the latest tourbillion chronograph diver if you want to. But we recommend nothing more expensive than a nice, solid Casio G-Shock. A watch for the weekends by the pool. Or by the bar. Or by the pool by the bar. You get the drift.

3. The workhorse quartz

This is the watch you wear day in and day out. The watch you wake up in the morning and wrap around your wrist. The watch that you always keep in that bowl by the front door. Choose something powered by a battery or one of those solar-powered models. So that you literally have to never ever think about it. It should just always be there for you. Like your fridge.

4. The vanity watch

You know what is indispensable? The odd bit of luxury in your wardrobe. That little bauble that makes you feel good about yourself. And what can do that job better than a wristwatch that is a reflection of your personality. It doesn’t have to be expensive or rare or even a collector’s item. It could be your grandfather’s HMT Pilot. But you’ve equipped it with a monogrammed strap. Because you’re worth it.

American Heritage grad and man, 29, killed in I-75 crash

A 17-year-old Miramar girl who had just graduated from American Heritage School and a 29-year-old man were killed in a violent chain-reaction crash on Interstate-75.

The crash involving two cars and two trucks happened about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of I-75 just south of the exit to Pines Boulevard.

The teenage girl was driving a white BMW and was identified by the Florida Highway Patrol as Liza Angulo, of Miramar. Angulo was a member of the Class of 2015 at American Heritage School in Plantation, officials said.

“American Heritage School is profoundly saddened by the loss of Liza Angulo. Liza was an intelligent and caring young lady with a bright future ahead of her. My heart goes out to her family as they process this unbearable tragedy. My thoughts are also with the Class of 2015 as they learn of this shocking loss of their classmate and friend,” principal Elise Blum said in a statement Friday morning.

According to her page on Facebook, Angulo was about to begin classes at the University of Miami.

The identity of the 29-year-old man who was killed has not been released.

According to FHP,, the crash began when a flatbed tractor-trailer hauling concrete barriers was leaving the highway’s median where construction has been taking place and was struck by the Mitsubishi being driven by the 29-year-old man.

The momentum of the impact carried the car and the truck about a quarter-mile down the highway, said FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

According to Wysocky, the BMW Angulo was driving struck the right rear of the flatbed truck causing some of the concrete barriers to fall on top of the car. Whether the barriers were properly secured on the truck is part of the ongoing investigation.

Additionally, a second truck —a tractor-trailer— also ran into the aftermath of the initial crash.

Neither truck driver suffered serious injuries but a female passenger in the Mitsubishi was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 through the crash scene were closed to traffic for more than seven hours.

This story will be updated. Check back for more information.

San Bernardino’s answer to Sturgis kicks off its inaugural run at San Manuel Amphitheater this weekend in the form of the Lost Highway festival.

Laguna Hills-based promoter SGE Entertainment is going full throttle with an event that merges music and motorcycles.

One of the co-producers of the event, SGE’s John Oakes, grew up with a passion for music and motorcycles and saw a need for something bigger for those who shared his interests in Southern California.

“All of the big motorcycling events, whether it’s Sturgis, Daytona, Laconia, Arizona Bike Week – all of these different events happen across the United States,” Oakes said.

While there have been some bigger bike shows, including Born Free in Orange County and the Love Ride in Los Angeles, Oakes and his associates wanted to do something on a larger scale.

They found themselves returning to San Manuel Amphitheater at Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore, where SGE has produced other festivals, including Knotfest and Blaze ’N’ Glory.

“We really want to create something where people come out for the weekend, they camp, they ride, they get to see some amazing motorcycles and enjoy themselves with music,” Oakes said.

In addition to the concert – which will be headlined by country superstar Toby Keith and Southern California punk rock favorite Social Distortion – the Eli Young Band, Reverend Horton Heat, Lucero and Lindi Ortega will perform.

For bike enthusiasts, the event will feature two rides through the San Bernardino Mountains.

One ride will benefit the Infinite Hero nonprofit organization, which provides veterans injured both mentally and physically with support and treatment, along with their families.

The second ride will benefit charities in Sturgis, S.D., the site of the massive Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. On the ride will be Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen, Carey Hart, Seth Enslow and Buddy Suttle. Each ride is $150 and includes a general admission ticket to the festival.

Other attractions at Lost Highway for motorcycle fanatics include a number of bikes on display, motorcycle stunts and an art show of the House of Kolor’s custom-painted motorcycle helmets.

“Our vision with the show is ‘Come for Social D, come for Toby Keith, come for both, come for the motorcycles, come for one or all,’” Oakes said.

Warrants taken out following motorcycle thefts

Vestavia Hills Police Department investigators obtained felony warrants on two Birmingham residents in connection to motorcycle thefts. The warrants charge Samuel L. Wren, 23, and Jacob L. Grayson, 39, with two counts of receiving stolen property in the first degree and one count of receiving stolen property in the second degree.

A VHPD night shift patrol officer noticed a vehicle and trailer on the side of I-459 near I-65 at Wednesday May 27 at 2 a.m. The officer went to check on the vehicle occupants and saw two unsecured and damaged motorcycles in the trailer. Investigation showed the trailer was stolen, and the motorcycles were also reported stolen to a neighboring police department.

Wren and Grayson are being held at Jefferson County Jail pending $25,000 bond.

DMV Urges Motorcyclists and Other Motorists to Use Caution

Department of Motor Vehicles News Release:

RICHMOND – Motorcyclist fatalities increased 22 percent last year in Virginia, a tragic statistic the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) hopes caution and education will help reduce.

May is National Motorcycle Awareness Month. DMV urges motorcyclists to always ride with safety in mind and asks other motorists to be on the lookout for motorcyclists sharing the roads.

Seventy-seven motorcycle riders were killed in crashes last year in Virginia – compared to 63 in 2013. More than half of the fatalities occurred during the summer months of June, July and August.

The Virginia Rider Training Program offers motorcycle classes for both beginning and experienced riders. Classes are taught by certified motorcycle safety instructors and are offered at community colleges and other locations throughout the state. To operate a motorcycle in Virginia, you must hold a valid Class M, M2 or M3 designation or a motorcycle driver’s license.

“We urge motorcyclists to arm themselves with information before hitting the road this summer,” said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb, the Governor’s Highway Safety Representative. “Virginia has a great training program for riders of all experience levels that will help you keep your skills sharp and your mind focused while operating a motorcycle. No matter how skilled you are on your bike, there’s always more to learn.”

Motorcycle Safety Tips

  • Always wear safety equipment. Wear helmets and other protective clothing such as gloves, goggles and a riding jacket. Motorcyclists and their passengers must wear helmets in Virginia. An unhelmeted rider is 40 percent more likely to suffer a fatal head injury than a rider wearing a helmet.

  • Be observant. Keep an eye on your surroundings.

  • Follow the rules of the road and drive defensively. DMV’s Virginia Highway Safety Office statistics show that the top motorcyclist actions contributing to fatal crashes last year were failure to maintain control and speeding.

  • Never operate a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Ten of the motorcyclists killed last year in Virginia had been drinking.

Tips for Other Motorists

  • Look for motorcyclists. In more than half of all crashes involving motorcycles and automobiles, the automobile driver didn’t see the motorcycle until it was too late.

  • Check your blind spots. Always check for motorcycles before you pull out, change lanes, turn, back up or proceed through an intersection.

  • Anticipate the motorcyclist’s movements. A slight change or debris on the road surface can be a major obstacle for motorcyclists so expect them to make sudden moves within their lane. Never tailgate a motorcycle or any other vehicle.

Insurance coverage lacking among motorcycles in India

Mogix External Battery Charger on Sale!

Accidents involving any of 75 percent of riders provide no compensation to the victims.

Two wheelers – including both motorcycles and scooters – are a very common vehicle in India, but recently released statistics have revealed that almost 75 percent of those riders are operating their vehicles without any type of insurance coverage, which is placing other road users at risk.

This is particularly risky for other two-wheelers, cyclists, and pedestrians who don’t have protection.

This data has been released by the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA). This lack of insurance coverage among the vast majority of the drivers of two wheelers has caused a committee to be appointed by the Supreme Court in order to place a greater focus on road safety. That committee has now called for the involvement of both the IRDA and the transport ministry to develop a new protocol for being able to identify vehicles that are not covered by a policy within a span of three months. The purpose will be to have a report completed based on what has been discovered so that appropriate action can be taken.

The lack of insurance coverage has been recognized as a very important problem considering the number of two wheelers.

scooter two wheeler auto insurance coverageAccording to Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan (retd), the committee chairperson, “IRDA representatives told us early this month that most two wheelers either have no insurance or their insurance has lapsed. Most of the owners don’t renew them since there is little enforcement.”

This is important insurance news when it comes to the millions of users of the streets of India, as it is believe that two wheelers make up 70 percent of all of the vehicles that are used throughout the country. Approximately 82 percent of Indian vehicles are privately owned. Most of those privately owned vehicles are two wheelers. Though this trend used to be the case primarily in the cities, the use of two wheelers has made its way into rural areas, as well.

There, the growth of the ownership of those vehicles has been exponential. That said, rural areas are also the locations where it is least likely that an insurance policy will be purchased in order to ensure coverage in the case of an accident.

There is a growing movement against this lack of insurance coverage. For example, S.P. Singh from the IFTRT (a transport think-tank based in Delhi), stated that “Running an uninsured vehicle should be treated as a criminal act and there should be harshest of punishment since such people cannot play with the lives of others.”

American Collectors Insurance Offering Policies to Protect Antique Cars During Travel

This press release was orginally distributed by ReleaseWire

Cherry Hill, NJ — (ReleaseWire) — 05/22/2015 — With vehicle collectors gearing up to display their classic cars at auto shows this summer, drivers are going to require protection through transportation. Offering flexible and comprehensive insurance policies, American Collectors Insurance is proud to announce their extra layer of protection through a towing and labor for collectors plan. There are three levels of coverage available, and drivers have the option to choose silver, gold, or platinum at affordable rates.

Collectors must hold a policy with the company as their TLC plans are not sold separately. As one of the leading exotic car insurance companies in the nation, their plans will provide reimbursement for emergency expenses that arise while traveling. Depending on needs and requirements, TLC policy features include reimbursements for roadside assistance, emergency lockout services, and emergency towing. If en route to an auto show and experience a breakdown or accident, the policy will reimburse drivers for registration fees and hotel costs.

The extra protection, no matter the level that drivers choose for coverage, is available for under $40. Platinum plans can be purchased for an additional $34.95 while silver plans are available for the low price of $9.95 with more limited coverage options. Know that the vehicle is covered if a car is stolen or vandalized as American Collectors Insurance will offer a reward for information in the event of a theft.

To be considered for the vintage car or classic truck insurance, collector vehicles must be driven on a limited basis and kept enclosed in a secure environment. Drivers must have their license for at least five years before inquiring on a policy, and maintain a good driving record. Receive protection during transportation between auto shows through the comprehensive TLC program, and an agreed value coverage in the event of an accident or damage.

To learn more about their policies, or to receive an instant quote, please visit the website today.

Ride safe, during motorcycle season

The following is a guest column from Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs.

Warmer weather is approaching, daylight hours are longer – it is finally spring. Motorcycle riders across Erie County are tuning up their bikes and getting ready for the riding season and the open road. Motorcycles are becoming ever more popular; they are inexpensive to operate, fun to ride and easy to park. In Erie County alone, there are more than 22,000 registered motorcycle riders who use their cycles for commuting, touring and recreational activities.

I want to remind all motorists, especially new drivers, to be alert to the presence of motorcycles on the road and to share the road safely. Cyclists often ride to one side of the lane and often times the motorcycle can hide in your vehicle’s “blind spot.” Carefully check before turning or changing lanes and look two or three times before making a move. Allow more following distance for motorcycles – two- or three-car lengths is recommended, more if the roads are wet or visibility is poor.

Unfortunately, many riders never learn the critical skills needed to ride safely. Riders should take a moment to review the aspects of motorcycle safety- wear protective gear at all times, including a helmet, ride within your skill limits and ride unimpaired. Riders can benefit from one of the motorcycle safety programs offered at several locations for both new riders looking to learn and experienced motorcyclists who want to reinforce safe driving practices. Class locations and fees can be found at www.nysmsp.org.

For more information on motorcycle licensing and registration please contact the Erie County Auto Bureau Call Center at 858-7450 or visit us at www.erie.gov/clerk/autobureau.

Together, the more we raise awareness and follow the rules of the road, the more we keep motorcyclists and all motorists safe. I urge everyone to use caution when sharing the road this summer. Let’s ride smart, ride safe and enjoy the season.

American Idol 2015: The 10 best performances of season 14!

It’s been a whole week since we saw Nick Fradiani crowned the fourteenth winner of ‘American Idol,’ so to celebrate the one week anniversary of the big finale, we’re taking a look at the very best live performances of the past season as determined by their YouTube view count.

Runner-up Clark Beckham clearly dominates the list, taking up half of the top 10 as his 5 most viewed performances have pulled in more than 894,000 views and counting. Filling out the other five slots are winner Nick, third place finisher Jax, as well as Joey, Qaasim and Daniel.

10. Jax – Only Human (Top 5)
YouTube view count: 164,000+
Jax gave a hauntingly beautiful rendition of Christina Perri’s ‘Only Human’ during the top 5. The last female standing, who eventually came in third place, was told by judge Harry Connick Jr. that her performance was “the perfect example” of when the emotion in the song was more important that the technical performance.

9. Clark Beckham – Sunday Morning (Top 11)
YouTube view count: 166,000+
When it was time to take on a track from a movie, eventual runner-up Clark acoustically covered Maroon 5’s ‘Sunday Morning’ from ‘Cheaper By The Dozen 2.’ The Tennessee native got some pretty high praise from judge Harry Connick Jr., who told him that he “knocked it out of the park.”

8. Clark Beckham – When a Man Loves a Woman (Top 24)
YouTube view count: 169,000+
During the top 24, Clark performed the classic track blues/R&B track ‘When a Man Loves a Woman.’ The singer got the ultimate compliment from judge Jennifer Lopez, who revealed that the performance gave her “goosies all day!”

7. Clark Beckham – Make It Rain (Top 7)
View Count: 178,000+
Clark took on Ed Sheeran’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’ track ‘Make It Rain’ for Billboard week. At the time, Jennifer Lopez called the performance “so amazing,” adding that singing for the Tennessee native was “so effortless.”

6. Nick Fradiani – Beautiful Life (Top 2)
View count: 194,000+
This year’s winner’s performance of his debut single ‘Beautiful Life’ garnered a whole lot of praise from the judges and viewers. In the past week, Nick’s debut performance of his winner’s song has reached almost 200,000 views.

5. Qaasim Middleton – Come Together (Top 11)
YouTube view count: 202,000+
Qaasim Middleton unexpectedly took on The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ during the top 11, when he was made to sing for his life for the judges save. Cleary, the unexpected song choice worked, as Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban decided to use their one save of the season to keep the singer around for another week.

4. Joey Cook – Fancy (Top 12)
YouTube view count: 207,000+
Quirky Joey Cook put a very fancy twist on Iggy Azalea and Charlie XCX’s 2014 single ‘Fancy.’ The singer gave the pop hit a bit of piano lounge make-over, which had Keith Urban on his feet and Harry giving it an “A+.”

3. Daniel Seavey – Thinking Out Loud (Hollywood Week)
YouTube view Count: 235,000+
The youngest contestant to make it to Hollywood week, 15 year old Daniel Seavey took on Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ during the second stages of the singing competition. The judges loved his performance so much that he made it all the way through to the live shows, where he eventually finished in ninth place.

2. Clark Beckham – The Trouble With Love Is (Top 8)
YouTube view count: 237,000+
Clark took on Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Love Actually’ track ‘The Trouble With Love Is’ when the original Idol winner returned for her very own week dedicated to her back catalogue. Kelly loved Clark’s performance so much that she even joked that she was pregnant after the handsome blues singer performed it for her during the mentor session.

1. Clark Beckham – It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World (Top 12)
YouTube view count: 313,000+
With more than 313,000 YouTube views, Clark’s cover of the James Brown 1966 classic ‘It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World’ is officially the most viewed performance of season 14, and clearly, the judges loved it too. Keith called the performance “amazing,” whilst Jennifer named it “the vocal of the night.”

Zero Motorcycles Lowers Price For 2015 North American Lineup

Zero Motorcycles today announced it would be lowering the prices of its entire 2015 lineup by $1,350. The price drop is a result of battery costs falling and energy densities increasing at a faster rate than anticipated.

“As leaders in this space we believe it is important to pass on the benefits of improved battery technology and our increased scale to consumers as soon as possible to allow more motorcyclists to experience the thrill of electric,” said Richard Walker, Zero Motorcycles CEO. “We’re not here to do things as they’ve been traditionally done in the motorcycle industry. Making this change mid-season to deliver great value to consumers at industry-leading price points, rather than waiting for 2016, is just the right thing to do.”

Since most distribution partners across the world buy Zero motorcycles based on the US MSRP, Zero says it will be able to pass on the benefit of these newly announced prices to consumers in their local markets. In Europe, these cost reductions will allow Zero to absorb the currency impact of the weakened Euro without raising prices from their current levels.

The new US MSRP for 2015 Model Zero Motorcycles are as follows:

2015 Zero FX
ZF2.8: $8,495
ZF5.7: $10,990

2015 Zero DS
ZF9.4: $11,995
ZF12.5: $13,995

2015 Zero S
ZF9.4: $11,995
ZF12.5: $13,995

2015 Zero SR
ZF12:5: $15,995

*Prices do not include sales tax, destination, freight, set-up, licensing or registration charges. Other charges may apply.

Insider Style: Gold Carpet Fashion Looks

The Gold Carpet has been rolled up and tucked away until next year. The 2015 class of draftees have learned their fates, and have moved on to their new lives as part of the NFL. We wish them great success! While their athletic prowess and world-class ability is without question, let us pause and reflect on their off the field style by highlighting gold carpet looks we loved.

As a firm believer style analysis is best left to fashion industry experts, I’ve enlisted professional Stylist and instructor at The Art Institute Austin, Michelle Washington to give us her thoughts on the 2015 Draft Gold Carpet looks. Take it from here, Michelle!

Thanks, Stephanie

As you know, men’s fashion has become very important in America. Athletes especially, are forced to step up their personal “style game” to match their on-field skills. As such, professional athletes have become “bona fide” style icons in men’s fashion. Aside from showing up to all of the must-be-seen fashion events like Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and the Met Gala, designer fashion brands are involved in the closets of an athlete’s off-the-field look more than ever.

Athletes that may have been lackadaisical about their style must now brush up on the art of dressing. Enter this year’s NFL draft picks, men who now have multiple spotlights on them; including men’s fashion editors of the world.

Here’s a look at who wore it best starting with Landon Collins.

Landon Collins, Safety, NY Giants and his motherRookie safety, Landon Collins, NY Giants and his mother

Landon clearly has respect for the classics. His decision to wear an elegant, dark, 3-piece suit with wide check frame and a double-breasted vest is an outstanding choice for his build. The cutaway dress shirt collar and burgundy pocket square with matching tie is impeccable. Grade: A+

Cedric OgbuehiRookie offensive tackle, Cedric Ogbuehi, Cincinnati Bengals and his mother

Cedric Ogbuehi: He’s a good looking man in a good looking suit. Not only is the slate-blue a great color, it looks professional. Cedric took it ‘all the way’ from a style perspective. His plaid tie adds personality…well done, young man! Grade: A

NFL: APR 30 National Football League Draft - Gold CarpetRookie wide receiver, Devin Smith, NY Jets and his mother

Devin Smith is clean! His decision to carry the solid, periwinkle-blue straight down to the shoes is a nice touch. The basic white dress shirt brings emphasis to the suit color. The small lapel and narrow tie is an equally smart choice. His blue shoes speak to a signature style that says a lot about him. The only detractor I can find is in terms of fit. The shoulder caps show a bit of “muffin cap”, instead of a smooth lay of fabric – but over all, a solid style effort and nice look. Grade: B+

NFL: APR 30 National Football League Draft - Gold CarpetRookie running back, Melvin Gordon, San Diego Chargers and his mother

Melvin Gordon: Melvin’s look illustrates a good use of color tones. I enjoy that he paired the cool, blue jacket with purple accents. Unfortunately, his suit suffers from poor fit, specifically the jacket which is too small. Note the “fabric stress star” action on the front button. It’s great to have muscles and want to show them off, but not through the sleeves of a tailored suit. The solution is proper fit. Grade: B-

For their next public appearances, the 2015 class of rookies might consider a few of these Classic-to-New Trends.

Patterned Suits: Bold checks, over-sized plaids and patterns aren’t for everyone. For those who can handle it, pair with simple, solid underpinnings, so the suit can take center stage. (Image courtesy/Photo 1 & 1B: M. Andrews Sartorial Luxury)

NFL~Draft1B - Patterned Suit

Blue Suits: Medium, bright, baby, indigo, and yes, even denim are part of the equation. The trick here is that there really isn’t any trick at all. These hues work like their neutral navy predecessor and pair with practically anything. (Image courtesy/Photo 2: M. Andrews Sartorial Luxury)

NFL~Draft2 - Blue SuitsBespoken: Elegance, quality and crafted style are always in no matter if you are old-school or new-school. (Image courtesy/Photo 3: M. Andrews Sartorial Luxury)

NFL~Draft3 - Bespoke Suit

Sneakers: Oh, and remember that ‘sneakers with suits thing’ from a few years ago? Well, that’s back too. More than ever, guys are wearing suits because they want to, not because they have to, which makes the options for blending limitless. (Image courtesy/Photo 4: www.paulsmith.co.uk and www.nordstrom.com)

NFL~Draft4 - Gold Carpet StyleYou don’t have to be an NFL Draft pick to be a “Fashionisto”. If you’re looking to add a little flare to your own personal style, one sure way is to choose great accessories such as colorful pocket squares, cufflinks and ties…”the devil is in the details”. Muscle cars to star at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power

Americana is one of the themes of the eighth Cholomondeley Pageant of

Power, which runs from June 12-14, with a display of North American

muscle cars set to appear on the Saturday.

One of the stars will be a replica Bud Moore 1969 Boss 302 Mustang.

The car was built in tribute to Moore, the famous NASCAR owner and

driver, and was fully competition prepared but never raced. It will

star alongside other American icons, such as a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air.

On Sunday the display will be replaced with a line-up of Eighties

supercars, including a 1983 Lamborghini Countach LP500S and a 1988

Ferrari Testarossa. The Pageant will also pay tribute to Lotus on the

Friday, with a parade of every production Lotus ever made.

Essentially a hill climb with added attractions, Cholmondeley

(pronounced “Chumley”) has some pretty mighty

“attractions”. Aside from the aforementioned displays, this

year’s include drag racing demonstrations, speedboats on the lake, a

flypast by the last airworthy RAF Vulcan and a flight demonstration by

an RAF Typhoon, plus aerobatics from the Red Bull Matadors.
