In a surprising turn of events, India Yamaha Motor has discontinued as many as five products from its portfolio in what appears to be a strategy to accommodate production of newer models. According to the updated website, India Yamaha Motor has taken out YBR 110, YBR 125, SS 125, SZ-S, SZ-S and SZ-RR from its official website. The updated website now lists the 106cc 7.6 PS Yamaha Crux as the entry level model while the 125cc fort is held by the 8.3 PS Saluto. The 150cc segment is occupied by the SZ-RR Version 2.0, the FZ series, Fazer and YZF-R15.

While we do not have detailed sales report of the scrapped products from Yamaha’s portfolio, we believe that the discarded products may not have met the sales targets to match with company’s expected revenue which may have led to this decision. Another reason for this decision might be updating the product portfolio to keep up with the rising competition.

This strategic removal of products from its portfolio indicates that India Yamaha Motor is working on newer, updated products which would soon replace the products that saw the door in the Indian market. The new products would, especially in the economy-commuter segment, would compete with the current segment leader, Hero MotoCorp. While we are not sure about the future strategy, we would put our heads in the line of fire and say that the new motorcycles may benefit with Yamaha’s Blue Core technology for enhanced fuel efficiency.
